Vaccinations

Cats

We recommend vaccinating cats from eight to nine weeks old.

The core vaccinations cover:

  • Feline Calicivirus (FCV)

  • Feline Herpesvirus type 1 (FHV1) and

  • Feline Panleukopaenia Virus (FPLV)

  • In addition, we recommend cats receive vaccination against Feline Leukaemia Virus

The initial vaccination course is one vaccination at eight to nine weeks old and a second vaccination at 12 weeks old, from here we booster annually with FCV and FHV1 being yearly and FPLV and FeLV being every three years following the first-year booster.

Dogs

We recommend vaccinating dogs from eight weeks old with a second vaccination at 12 weeks old.

The core vaccinations cover :

  • Canine Distemper Virus

  •  Canine Parvovirus and Canine Adenovirus.

  • We also recommend protection against Leptospirosis. All parts of the vaccination are given at eight weeks, 12 weeks and the first-year booster, then Leptospirosis is repeated annually and the other portions every three years.

Rabbits

We recommend vaccinating against Myxomatosis and Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease types one and two annually.

Neutering

Cats

We recommend neutering cats from five months old and at least 2 kg in bodyweight

Dogs

We recommend neutering dogs from six months old breed dependent.  If a bitch has had a season then neutering is carried out from three months after season.

Rabbits

We recommend neutering from four months old assuming in males both testes have descended by this time. Ideally, we prefer the rabbit to be at least 1kg in bodyweight but appreciate that this may not be the case in the dwarf breeds.

Parasite Treatment

Cats

We recommend speaking with your veterinary team who can advise the best possible treatment plan for cat based on it’s individual requirements.

Dogs

We recommend treating for fleas, worms (including lungworm) and ticks in the Southampton and New Forest area.

Rabbits

We recommend the use of flystrike preventative during the warm months and E. cuniculi preventative treatment year round.

Non-endemic Disease in Dogs

Please be aware that we are seeing an increasing number of non-endemic diseases in pets which have travelled to Europe and the US. If you are taking your pet abroad please discuss this with your veterinary surgeon as these diseases can be life threatening and include but are not limited to Canine Heartworm and Leishmaniasis.

Pet Travel Abroad

Please see www.gov.uk/taking-your-pet-abroad for further information as this site has the most up to date information.

Please be aware that UK veterinary surgeons are no longer able to issue European Pet Passports.

Microchipping

Updating microchip details

Please see www.petlog.org.uk/ for further information

Repeat Prescriptions and Food Orders

Please allow at least 72 hours for all repeat prescription requests.

Please be aware that we are required to examine pets regularly who are on chronic medications, your veterinary surgeon will guide you with how regular, but this will be at least six-monthly.

Payment Information

Payment must be made either :

  • time of appointment
  • collecting medications
  • when ordering food (excluding items included in your PHC)
  • at time service provided e.g. collecting your pet (if not a direct claim)

Insurance

Insurance claims

We accept direct insurance claims at the discretion of our Practice Manager or Clinical Director and will be considered where the estimated cost is £500 or more.

Direct Insurance Claim

A direct insurance claim is one where you do not pay us the full amount, just the excess and fees not covered by your insurance policy such as percentage co-payment; rather we claim the money directly from the insurance company. In the event that all or any part of the insurance claim is not paid by your insurance company for any reason you will be liable for the outstanding balance.

Direct Claims

All direct claims must be agreed in advance of the procedure (emergency situation will be treated on a case-by-case basis), a claim form must be provided on the morning of the procedure and excess (plus any percentage co-payments) to be paid on the day of the procedure.

There is a fee associated with each ‘new condition’ insurance claim of £19.50. There is no fee for continuation claims.
